Jon C. Countess, 1964-2014

Bio

Jon Countess began practicing with the firm, then Laucks & Monroe in 1964, immediately after he graduated from law school. He always knew that his primary draw to the legal profession was to meet interesting people and to help them solve their problems. That has been the bedrock of his practice ever since - solving problems. He focuses his practice in the areas of estate planning, real estate and corporate/business matters.

Jon specializes in meeting both the personal and professional needs of his clients. He often works with small businesses and professional clients to provide both business succession planning and personal estate planning or administration. He attributes his success to taking the time to get to know his clients, their families and their goals well, and crafting solutions that are tailored to their circumstances. Additionally, he is able to call upon the expertise of other CGA attorneys in the areas of tax law, family law, bankruptcy and litigation to provide a full range of legal counsel. His experience includes:

  • Estate and tax planning/compliance
  • Probate administration
  • Trust administration
  • Business, land and asset acquisitions and sales
  • Leases and general business contracts
  • Family transition/succession planning

Jon has been an active supporter and participant in numerous civic, social and business organizations throughout his career. He formerly served on the Board of Directors for Catholic Social Services, Lutheran Social Services, the York Symphony Association and the York County Bar Association. He was Chairman of the Attorneys Section of the United Way of York and formerly on the Board of Governors for the York Country Club.

  • Assisted numerous clients in the settlement of complex estate matters, resulting in substantial tax savings.
  • Prepared condominium documents for and represented various condominium projects and associations.
  • Participated in the purchase and sale of numerous businesses.
  • Provided numerous succession plans for business clients.
