Craig S. Sharnetzka & Andrew M. Paxton Named Rising Stars

York, PA (May 2013) – CGA Law Firm is pleased to announce that attorneys Craig S. Sharnetzka and Andrew M. Paxton have been selected to the 2013 Pennsylvania Rising Stars list.  Each year, no more than 2.5 percent of the lawyers in the state are selected by the research team at Super Lawyers to receive this honor.

This is the third time attorney Craig S. Sharnetzka has been selected to the list of Pennsylvania Rising Stars.  A shareholder with CGA Law Firm, Sharnetzka focuses his legal practice in the areas of municipal law, real estate, bankruptcy and estate planning and administration.  He is a member of the Southern York County Rotary, the York County Bar Association, and a board member of the American Red Cross York / Adams Chapter.  He has received awards for his pro bono contributions from both the York County and Pennsylvania Bar Associations.

Andrew M. Paxton, a shareholder with CGA Law Firm, is a trusted advisor to entrepreneurs and businesses providing counsel through all stages of operations from starting a business, to financing, protecting intellectual property, obtaining licensing, expanding the business, to successfully exiting when the time is right.  As a business advisor, he also provides businesses with innovative strategies on tax planning, financing, drafting and reviewing contracts, and real estate transactions.  He serves on the Board of Directors of the Redevelopment Authority and serves as a volunteer and committee member for the York Saint Patrick’s Day Parade.

Bankruptcy Attorney Lawrence V. Young selected by Super Lawyers

York, PA (May 2013) – For eight consecutive years, bankruptcy attorney Lawrence V. Young has been selected by Pennsylvania Super Lawyers as one of the top attorneys in the state for 2013.  Each year, no more than 5 percent of the lawyers in the state receive this honor.  An attorney and shareholder with CGA Law Firm, attorney Young limits his legal practice to bankruptcy.  He is one of only 25 consumer bankruptcy specialist throughout the Commonwealth to be certified by the American Board of Certification.  He is also one of the two Trustees appointed by the U.S. Department of Justice to review all consumer bankruptcy filings for the Middle District of Pennsylvania that originate from York and Adams counties. Earlier this year, Young was recognized by the York County Bar Association with the Outstanding Member Award.

Attorney Sharon E. Myers Named 2013 Woman of Influence

York, PA (May 2013) – CGA Law Firm is pleased to announce that attorney Sharon E. Myers has been honored as an award recipient of the 2013 Women of Influence awards by the Central Penn Business Journal.

Sharon was selected as one of the top nominees by the judges for her leadership and achievements within CGA Law Firm, as well as her contributions to the community.  For seventeen years, Sharon led the law firm as Managing Shareholder.  Under her leadership the firm grew to 30 attorneys providing a full range of legal services to businesses, municipalities, and individuals.  Today, she is involved in governing the law firm as a member of the firm’s executive committee.  Her legal practice focuses on estate planning and administration, municipal law and real estate transactions.  Additionally, she specializes in financing with experience in municipal financing, banking and foreclosures.

Committed to serving the community in which she lives and works, Sharon serves on the York College of Pennsylvania Board of Trustees, the Board of Directors of Cross Key Villages, The Brethren Home Community and is a member of the Advisory Board for Susquehanna Bank.  In 2011, she received the Distinguished Alumni Service Award by the Board of Directors of the Alumni Association of York College of Pennsylvania recognizing her outstanding career achievement and dedicated service to the college.

The Women of Influence awards recognizes 25 women leaders in the midstate who are influential in their companies, industries and communities, and have solid reputations based on their experience, integrity, leadership, and accomplishments.

As an award winner, Sharon was recognized at an event on Monday, May 13 at the Hilton Harrisburg, as well as in a publication to be inserted in the May 17 issue of the Central Penn Business Journal.

Student Art Contest – Call for Entries

York, PA (May 2013) – We are looking for the next Picasso.  Do you know a child with artistic talents?  Then we want to see their work of art.

The student art contest presented by Downtown Inc. and CGA Law Firm is open to students in grades K-12 in York County, Pennsylvania.   All entries must be received by 4 p.m. on Friday, May 31 at CGA Law Firm with a completed application.  To download the application and rules for the contest, click on the image.  Only one entry per student will be accepted.  There will be one winner from each of the four categories.  Students have a chance to win a $50 savings bond for their masterpiece.

Judging will be held by an independent group the week of June 2.  Winners will be announced on First Friday in Downtown York on June 7, 2013 at our Student Art Gala being held in the lobby of the CGA Professional Center.  All artwork will be on display for the public to view.  A “People’s Choice” award will be given to the artist with the most votes.  So make sure to encourage your friends and family to come out and cast their vote.

CGA Attorneys Sworn in to the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland

York, PA (April 2013) – This week two attorneys at CGA Law Firm, Glenn J. Smith and Zachary E. Nahass, were admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the District of Maryland.  The swearing in ceremony took place on Monday, April 8, 2013 in Greenbelt, Maryland.  Admission to the court is part of an ongoing effort by the firm to meet the needs its clients.

Attorney Smith is a shareholder with CGA Law Firm, where his legal practice primarily focuses civil litigation, commercial litigation, construction litigation, criminal law, collections and estate litigation, as well as, municipal law.  Glenn also serves as solicitor to the Pennsylvania State Mayors’ Association and Jefferson Borough.  He is licensed to practice in Pennsylvania, Maryland and New Jersey.

Zachary E. Nahass, an associate with the Firm, focuses his legal practice on the areas of business, labor and employment law, civil litigation, and school law with an emphasis on special education. He is licensed to practice in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Pennsylvania.

Anne Zerbe Talks Depression in the Workplace

York, PA (April 2013) – Employment law attorney Anne E. Zerbe will present at the Pennsylvania Bar Institute’s Annual Employment Law Institute in Philadelphia on April 16, 2013.  The workshop “Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues: Depression in the Workplace” will look at the implications of the ADAAA and FMLA on depression and how employers can minimize liability and maximize productivity.

Attorney Zerbe is a shareholder with CGA Law Firm and chairs the Labor & Employment Law Department.   Her practice emphasizes the prevention of employment liability, defending against employment claims and assisting clients with compliance issues concerning the multitude of employment laws and regulations governing employers. Anne also counsels employers, practice groups and health care providers on employment law compliance, risk management and HIPAA compliance.

She is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resource (SPHR) by the HR Certification Institute and holds an AV Preeminent® peer review rating by Martindale-Hubbell®. She received her undergraduate degree from Wittenberg University in 1993 and graduated from the Dickinson School of Law of the Pennsylvania State University in 1996.  In 2008, Anne was recognized by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development as one of the Best 50 Women in Business.  She was named a “Forty Under 40” recipient by the Central Penn Business Journal and also recognized by Leadership York as Outstanding Alumnus of the Year in 2009.

CGA Law Firm Appoints Jeffrey L. Rehmeyer, II as President

Firm names 3rd President in its 23-year history.

Central PA (January 21, 2013) – Shareholders at CGA Law Firm of York have elected Jeffrey L. Rehmeyer, II as the firm’s third President in the firm’s 23-year history. As of January 1, 2013, Rehmeyer succeeds Sharon E. Myers who has been Managing Shareholder since 1996. Myers remains on the firm’s Executive Committee.

Rehmeyer has been with CGA Law Firm for 18 years and is a member of numerous legal professional organizations including the American Bar Association, the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the York County Bar Association.  In 2003, he created the firm’s Marketing Committee to differentiate the firm from its local competitors by embracing and communicating its unique qualities. Rehmeyer is also a founding member of the Building Committee, which led the firm in creating one of its greatest assets, the CGA Professional Center.

Rehmeyer provides legal counsel to businesses, municipalities, schools and individuals practicing in the areas of business and corporate law, real estate, municipal and school, intellectual property, and estate planning.

Rehmeyer grew up locally and attended Dallastown High School. Following graduation he traveled across the country to obtain his undergraduate degree from California State University at Long Beach where he graduated with honors. Five years later, Rehmeyer graduated from Dickinson School of Law, cum laude, and returned to his hometown where he has been actively involved as on-going counsel to Dallastown Dollars for Scholars Scholarship Program (DDFS), Dallastown chapter of Communities that Care (CTC) and is the founding member of the Dallastown Area Educational Foundation (DAEF) – three local not-for-profit organizations aimed directly at improving the quality of life and educational opportunities for Dallastown students.

In 2006, Rehmeyer was selected to receive the Forty Under 40 award on behalf of the Central Penn Business Journal. In that same year he was named to the list of Rising Star under the Pennsylvania SuperLawyers.
