Summer Associates Law Program

Become a Summer Associate at CGA Law Firm

CGA Law Firm’s Summer Associate Program offers law students a comprehensive, substantive, and rewarding opportunity. The Program is designed to expose participants to the many practice areas available at CGA Law Firm, to enhance research and writing skills, and to aid in professional development.

Mentoring

One of the most important aspects of the Summer Associate Program is meeting, interacting with, and getting to know our attorneys. Every attorney can offer valuable advice, as each person contributes to the success of the Firm. To facilitate meaningful mentor relationships, our summer associates attend lunches with a different attorney each week, where they can discuss cases, ask substantive legal questions, and get to know one another informally. Summer associates are also invited to attend and participate in monthly attorney and practice group meetings.

Assignments and Feedback

CGA provides summer associates with a diverse and stimulating array of projects throughout each practice area in the Firm. They will gain experience in litigation, employment law, family law, bankruptcy, real estate, health, municipal, business, estates, and education law. This comprehensive list of practice areas offers summer associates the opportunity to engage in various research projects with many attorneys in the Firm. Summer associates expand their substantive and procedural legal knowledge by receiving assignments to draft documents, write briefs, and help attorneys prepare for trial.

They are asked to attend real estate closings, depositions, hearings, oral arguments, trials, negotiations, and board meetings. These experiences help to transition law students from academia to practicing law. For the same reason, summer associates are encouraged to track their hours with both billable and non-billable hours tracked.

At the conclusion of the Program, each summer associate will have an exit interview with the program coordinators. The Program also allows CGA to evaluate and consider potential candidates for full-time employment. CGA encourages all participants to apply; however, an offer for full-time employment after the Program’s conclusion depends upon the availability of positions and the Firm’s evaluation of the summer associate’s performance, work ethic, and ability to interact well with attorneys, staff, and clients.

Social Activities

CGA Law Firm believes in a strong balance between hard work and enjoying the camaraderie that comes from being a part of the CGA team. Summer associates can get to know our attorneys outside of the office in a more relaxed setting. They are invited to attend several social events, including baseball games in the York Revolution Skybox, sporting clay shoots, picnics, happy hour gatherings, and more.

The Program offers a valuable learning experience that allows students to actively participate in substantive legal matters and to work closely with legal professionals, staff, and clients. CGA is committed to teaching and mentoring summer associates and providing the support and resources they need for a successful experience.
