Sydney is enthusiastic to join the CGA Marketing Department and assist with special events, seminars, website maintenance, newsletters, email blasts, ad graphics, videotaping, social media, articles, bios, and much, much more! She brings intelligence, attention to detail, and a sunny, West Coast personality to the position.

Born and raised in San Diego, California, Sydney began coming to York soon after welcoming her step-dad into her life and meeting extended family here. She vacationed with family over summer and winter breaks and interned with Royal Square Development & Construction for two summers which sparked love with the city and its surrounding countryside. When it came time to for her to begin looking at colleges, Sydney was only interested in those surrounding the York area. She was accepted to her top choice college Franklin & Marshall College (F&M) in Lancaster, and is a recent graduate.

Her College Years

At F&M, Sydney earned a Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature and a Minor in Italian Language Studies. Her favorite courses were Medieval British Literature, Ovid’s Metamorphoses, and upper level creative writing courses. Sydney was selected to be the Preceptor for a Creativity, Innovation, and Design Course on satire in the media which guided students through discovering, understanding, and producing satire focused on current events and campus commentary through the media of radio broadcast.

The Campus Activities

When she was not studying, Sydney enjoyed engaging in several on-campus organizations. One of her favorites was Franklin & Marshall’s radio station WFNM 89.1. Sydney was an Executive Board member there throughout her entire college career, beginning as the Secretary and working her way up. She became General Manager and President and managed the station’s nearly 100 DJs, students, faculty, and professional staff members and their programs. Another highlight was serving on the Executive Board for the organization Colleges Against Cancer, a partner to the American Cancer Society in establishing Relay for Life events. She held leadership positions in several other organizations and was elected to student government in Brooks House Congress where she helped organize activity days for local elementary schools.

Her Early Years

Sydney was able to manage her full schedule at college because she had grown up balancing many extracurriculars. She was a Girl Scout from kindergarten through her senior year of high school, danced (ballet, tap, and jazz), played sports (soccer, basketball, lacrosse, competitive cheerleading, and water polo), and acted in a local theater company. She was also one of only a few student athletic trainers in her high school where she studied under the school’s athletic trainer and worked with athletes to recover from, rehabilitate, and prevent injuries.

Her Personal Life

Since graduating, Sydney has taken up new interests and fostered older ones; in her spare time she enjoys reading high fantasy literature, exploring downtown York, sewing, working on her novel, and playing with her cat Toffee.

Please give a big East Coast welcome to our West Coast Sydney!
