William C. Goodridge Center and Underground Railroad Statue Unveiling

At the William C. Goodridge Freedom Center; 123 E. Philadelphia Street, York, PA. Attorney Frank Countess wrote letters and encouraged friends to raise the majority of the money needed to create this statue. In total, he raised over $70,000! Although born enslaved, William C. Goodridge became free at a very young age and moved to York, Pennsylvania, where he went on to find great success as an entrepreneur.
