Attorney Spotlight: Daniel M. Fennick

access_time Posted on: April 5th, 2022

Of Counsel Attorney Daniel M. Fennick is a volunteer woodworking instructor to hearing impaired students at the Escuela de Educación Especial de San Miguel de Allende (San Miguel School for Special Education) in San Miguel de Allende, in Guanajuato, Mexico.

The San Miguel School for Special Education is a non-profit school funded primarily from grants, donations, and fundraising. In Guanajuato, the government does not support schools for the deaf, and public schools lack the ability and instruction to properly teach deaf students. The school opened in 2012 with only three teachers, and in 2019, for the first time, three young women were able to complete their on-line high school classes.

The students in the carpentry workshop have continued to enhance their talent and skill in the realm of woodworking over the past several years. Dedicated volunteers began by tutoring them in making simple puzzles on the scroll saw and today they have advanced to building furniture and functional artist and display easels. Combine this with creating wine racks, display bins, as well as outstanding cutting boards, and you have a recipe for success!

The school’s mission, “to ensure that all San Miguel de Allende children who are Deaf become literate, independent, and productive citizens who set and achieve life goals” echos in the hearts of everyone at CGA Law Firm.

We are all proud of the initiative that prompted Dan to donate his time and energy to the school.

The San Miguel School for Special Education has also received funds from Rotary International in order to fully implement grants. The Rotary Club of York is one of the Rotary groups that contributed to this cause.
