CGA Law Firm is pleased to announce that Attorney Thomas O’Shea received the MidPenn Donald F. Smith, Jr., Pro Bono Award during the MidPenn Legal Services Access to Justice Reception.
“Tom was chosen for this award, given his many years of support for MidPenn by serving on the Board in various positions and accepting cases as a pro bono volunteer, primarily in the Family law area, which are often some of the most difficult cases to place with volunteer attorneys,” Rhodia D. Thomas, executive director of MidPenn Legal Services, said.
O’Shea has written and directed Bar Stools, a local comedic production with a cast of attorneys that spoof politics and their profession bi-annually for over thirty years. The proceeds benefit the York Bar Foundation, which funds some of MidPenn’s work in York County. “Since 1999, thirteen productions have remarkably grossed over $270,000 with net proceeds of $90,000 for the Belmont Theatre and $116,000 supporting the Bar Foundations Access to Justice grants and programs.” Victoria Connor, President of the Pennsylvania Association of Bar Executives, stated.
MidPenn Legal Services is a non-profit law firm that provides civil legal services to low-income residents and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Their efforts are made possible through donors, whose generosity and commitment have helped provide high-quality free civil legal services to 18 counties in Central Pennsylvania. The Access to Justice celebration honors members of the legal profession who have made a significant contribution toward achieving Equal Justice for all members of its community.
O’Shea is a Shareholder and Chair of the Family Law Practice Group. He has been specializing in family law matters for more than 30 years. His philosophy is to resolve the divorce and family conflict sensibly and efficiently while minimizing stress and the financial burden for all parties. Resolution is rarely simple, and litigation cannot always be avoided. Tom has litigated hundreds of cases during his career. More importantly, he has resolved thousands of other cases, sparing his clients the expense and uncertainty of trial.
