PA Judge Sanctions Litigant for Misuse of AI

Jones, Esq On August 28, 2025, Judge Karoline Mehalchick sanctioned a pro se plaintiff for citing a non-existent case hallucinated by an artificial intelligence (AI) source.[1] Upon notice by the defendant that a Third Circuit opinion cited in plaintiff’s brief could not be found, Judge Mehalchick issued a rule to show cause relating to the suspect citation. Plaintiff admitted that it was generated by AI in an apparent mix-up between a plaintiff in one case and a defendant in another case. Although we aren’t able to hold our blood drive here in our office as we have done prior to the COVID pandemic, we are still committed to helping hospital patients! CGA is hosting a Red Cross virtual blood drive and you can help make it a success. The goal of our virtual blood drive is for CGA donors to give blood at local community blood drives. This year’s Give Local York was held on Friday, May 6th over the entire 24-hour day and raised a cumulative $4,173,330 for 292 different organizations in York County. CGA Law Firm would like to extend our gratitude to the nearly eleven thousand donors who pitched in to fundraise this year. In 2002, Pam Seay was recruited by CGA Law Firm to establish an Abstracting Department for the firm. She had over seventeen years of experience in the field and was willing to take on the challenge in the CGA Office in its previous location on Duke Street.
